Re: STARTUP FAILURE

Hi,

The 24 character error code will be a Smart or Disk Self Test failure - in either case, it would indicate that the Hard Drive is failing and needs to be replaced.

If your notebook is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange to have the drive replaced - you can check your warranty status Here.

If you live in the US, contact HP Here.

If you are in another part of the world, start Here.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide on replacing the Hard Drive yourself, please let me know.

Where to find windows8 product key

This is NOT official HP Customer Support and I, as most other persons on this forum, do not work for HP. This is a peer-to-peer user supported forum for HP consumer class products. HP maintains no official presence on this forum and it is unlikely that HP will respond in an official capacity. Any reply from an HP employee represents their own opinion and not that of HP's.

Your computer most likely shipped with Windows 7 Pro installed from the factory and a set of Windows 8/8.1 Pro Restore Discs. This is a common configuration for business computers. Before using the Windows 8/8.1 discs, you should have created a set of Windows 7 Restore/Recovery Discs.

OEM computers that ship with Windows 8/8.1 no longer contain a Microsoft COA with product key. Instead, the key is encrypted and embedded in the BIOS/CMOS.

Since it appears that you have a business class computer, your question may be better answered in the HP Enterprise Business Community. You may also consider contacting the HP Business Support Center to request assistance with your issue.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: Windows 7 Drivers

Hi, Pete:

HP does not support your model for W7, so you will have to find drivers from other business notebooks with similar hardware that are supported for W7 by HP.

Most if not all of the drivers from this model should work on yours with the exeption of the audio.

DO NOT USE ANY BIOS OR FIRMWARE DOWNLOADS FROM THIS LINK

http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/psi/swdHome/?lang=en&cc=us&sp4ts.oid=5359407

Audio:  Accept the agreement, download and install the second driver on the list (for W7 x64).

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=24&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownT...

Make your set of W8 recovery media first before installing W7. Once W7 is installed, the recovery partition will most likely no longer function.  More info on how to make recovery media is below.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c03481733&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_us...

You will also need to change a BIOS setting in order to install and run W7.

Re: Need Help! USB3 ports not working

I used the amd cleanup utility. Then after that, I reinstalled the drivers. But for some reason, my usb3 ports are not working (but usb2 port is working fine). Also, when I try to restart my laptop with the iphone still attachd to the usb3 port, during the BIOS loading, the iphone would be charging, but afterwards, when the OS loads, the phone would stop charging. So i think i just need to install a driver but I cant seem to find the right one.

Help!

Re: Lost factory installed windows 8 from my hp envy touchsmart 15 J007TX note book :(

Hi,

I would recommend booting in uefi mode ( rather than the traditional bios mode ) as it generally gives faster boot times.

Note:  If you wish to boot Windows 8 in uefi mode, the Hard Drive must be formatted with a guid partition table ( GPT ) and you need to choose the CDROM ( uefi ) option from the boot manager menu ( f9 ) when starting the installation.

Re: win8 hard drive failure. trying to reinstall win8

Please provide the complete model name and product number (pn) of the HP computer in question. DO NOT include the serial number.

When you copy a partition, you may not be copying every file, folder, and bit of information. When you "clone" drive or partition, typically it is an exact duplicate of the original.

There are many resources, guides, and free cloning software on the internet. Just search for it and you will find it.

Alternatively, you may wish to contact official HP support in your region / country via the, HP Worldwide Support Portal, to see if HP Recovery Media is available for your computer. If in the USA, you can also see if www.ComputerSurgeons.com carries the HP Recovery Media.

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Re: operating system

Hi there @Masnal

I understand you wish to update your BIOS. I am happy to help, but what is available will depend on the model of computer you have.

HP generally only maintains drivers, and such for the configurations the notebook is sold in, so it is quite possible that what you are looking for may not be available.

For now please post the full model number and the operating system you wish to find the updates for and I can look. Even if it is not directly available, does not mean it is impossible, just that HP has not created customized drivers for that configuration. It then becomes more a use at own risk type of situation, as it would not be supported. If you choose to proceed, I for one would recommend that you make a set of recovery disks for your computer or some type of recovery media so you can return to a factory setting if it becomes necessary. And I would also recommend backing up any data that you have on the computer that is important to you. It is always a best practice.

Anyway for now, you can use these to get the product number I mentioned and the proper os version.
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?

I hope this helps.

Windows 8,Genuine product key problem

Hi,

If your notebook came with Windows 8 preinstalled, then the Product Key is stored in the Bios chip - there is no longer a COA sticker.

You can still read the product key from its entry in Windows registry and there are plenty of free applications that you can use - one of the easiest ways is to download and run the script on the following link.

Software malfunctions of my hp pavilion notebook dm4

my hp notebook pavilion dm4 windows 7 was originally bought in china and imported to ghana. On its arrival some programs were operating in mandarin chinese whilst some operated in english the fingerprint scanner was also not working, few weeks later the screen always went blank with only the cursor on screen after booting and i was told it was due to cyclical redundancy of the hard disk so i had to buy a new one.the new hard disk was then inserted and i got the laptop back only to realise that it was upgraded to windows 8, when i tried installing some programs like autocad among others i get error codes.later on a friend told me it was because i hadn't partitioned my hard disk, i also got a message saying that my net framwork was missing.i tried to switch it on but the turn windows features on or off box appears without any programs listed.i also tried reinstalling the net framework but i was told that i already have it but its only working partially.i have also tried to reinstall windows but i always get error codes.finally a friend decided to install windows 7 on it through a bootable pendrive but all to no avail.after this i realised that my touchpad does not work when clicked on rather i have to use the right and left buttons to click, the screen brightness is also very dim and i have to strain my eyes and cant even see the cursor on the screen very well.i tried using the shortcut keys but they don't seem to work.this problem has persisted for about two weeks now. i am very desperate and need help as soon as possible..thank you

Hi Cj97Lj,

I am sorry that you are having this much trouble with your notebook. :smileysad:

I am sending the HP Pavilion g6-2249wm Notebook PC Product Specifications, it will let you know what came with this computer. I also want you to try and open the HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide as it is a PDF. If this opens then we know that you have Adobe installed and that something else is causing the issue. If you cannot open it, then download and install Adobe Reader from my previous post and then try running your audio disks.

I am also sending this document for Software Recovery Options (Windows 8) that explains how to do the recovery.

I have my fingers crossed this works for you, keep me posted. :smileywink:

Windows 8.1 Upgrade, MyDocuments and Control Panel Issues

I have an HP Envy m6 Notebook PC and a few weeks ago updated to Windows 8.1 from Windows 8. It was working fine until yesterday.

When I open File Explorer it says that the folder 'My PC' is empty. Other times it works fine when File Explorer is first opened but will not work if it is closed and reopened without restarting the computer. I have also discovered that the Control Panel does not work at all. It opens but the window is blank. I can't access anything that would normally be accessed via the Control Panel like changing the desktop background, adding or modifying hardware etc. Finally, with the exception of folders, icons showing the file type eg Word Document, Pdf etc do not display when viewed in File Explorer but display correctly on the desktop. The computer works - I can access teh internet, save and create documents, but struggle to subsequently access them (though it is possible).

Thanks for you help.

Both drivers (hp's and win7's) seems fine in the "device manager" but non of them seems to be working with the "Validity..." software, can any one tell me what is the problem?

Do I have to use the "simple pass" software insted of the "Validity..." software?

If asked for NEW password just hit enter.

Re: Need Drivers compatible with Windows 7

Hi:

First install the AMD chipset driver and reboot.

You want the first file listed on the webpage.

http://support.amd.com/en-us/download/chipset?os=Windows 7 - 64

Then you can use all of the W7 x64 drivers and software from this model at the link below, except maybe the wireless.

DO NOT USE ANY BIOS OR FIRMWARE DOWNLOADS FROM THIS LINK

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=5275...

For the wireless driver please do this...

Go to the device manager.

Click on the Network Controller device.

At the top of the Network Controller window, click on the Details tab.

Now you see a Property drop down list that is defaulted to Device Description.

Drop down on that and select the second item (Hardware ID's).

Now you see 3-4 lines of characters, the top line starting with PCI\VEN.

Post that top line of characters.

Re: Windows 7 Home Premium product key

Hi,

If the Product Key on your COA Label is no longer legible, unfortunately there is no way to recover it as neither HP or Microsoft will have any record this.

However, if you use a set of Recovery Discs, it won't be needed as activation will occur automatically via a software licence table on your bios chip and an embedded security certificate.

You can order a replacement set of Recovery Discs starting on the link below.

Order HP Recovery Discs.

If you have any problem with this link, see if you can order them directly from HP.

Re: Norton/Validity driver uninstall issues.

I have a HP Envy m6 laptop, which came with a trial of Norton Internet Security. The trial ran out and I understandably want to delete it. However, manual deletion doesn't work. 3rd- party uninstallers are also useless. I ran the official removal tool, but it uninstalled my biometric validity drivers as well (apparently made by Symantec). I can remove Norton with the official tool, but will these drivers, if downloaded, then work as normal?

Re: Windows 7 drivers for hp nw9440 mobile workstation

Although my nw9440 works under W7, the video drivers aren't 100% compatible.

I recently bought an USB monitor adapter for an external display and it doesn't function. The producer told me that they tested all the adapter's drivers with the official laptop's video drivers and since for this laptop model there isn't an official one, they can't help me. On the other hand, the adapter works perfectly under vista's video drivers. I've tested all vista's drivers with w7, but all failed with a BSOD.

I am wondering if there is a w7 video driver that is fully compatible.

My laptop is HP Compaq nw9440 (EY615EA#ABB), sn CND7271D1M, graphic card NVIDIA Quadro 1500M.

Right now I am stuck with vista.
Please help!

Thank you,

Hi:

Those are the hardware ID's for the disk drive.

Please post the hardware ID's for the Network Controller listed under the Other Devices category in the Device Manager.

That is the wireless card.

Re: Slow start-up on Elitebook 840 G1

I've requested for help for this before but didn't receive help that fixed my system, so I'm hoping that I could get something more substantial with the experts!

I'm using a HP elitebook 840 G1 and lately I've been having slow start-ups. Instead of taking a few seconds to boot up, it now takes around 20-40+ seconds to boot up. Occasionally, when the system boot ups, a white screen shows up. On this white screen, there are two lines.

"The bios has recovered its identity data from the Embedded Controller due to hash mismatch."

"The bios has recovered its identity data from the Embedded Controller due to data mismatch."

Then there is a 10 second countdown before my computer successfully boots up. Also, I realised that after this started happening, my "sleep" and "hibernate" function no longer works. Whenever I put my computer to sleep/hibernate (with open web browsers and folders, etc.), when I switch it back on, the computer seems to boot up as if I had shut it down. When it completely boot ups, I'm just greeted with my desktop. I wanted to email this to support, but (another problem) my serial number isn't recognized by HP for some reason.

I don't think that there are any installations that I have made that could have led to this? But I'm not all that certain when the problem actually started, therefore I can't give you a list of what I recently installed.

I'm using windows 8.1.

My elitebook 840 G1 uses an intel i7-4600U processor with intel graphics + Radeon HD 8750M, 1TB hard disk and 8GB of ram. All assistance would be appreciated!

Re: Windows 8 Product Key for Pavilion G6

Hi:

Starting with all PC's that come with W8, the product keys are encrypted in the BIOS chip.

This has been done by Microsoft in a further attempt to reduce software piracy and counter the illegal use of OEM product keys on other PC's.

The only way you can reinstall windows 8 is to purchase a set of W8 recovery disks for the specific model g6 you have, or to install Windows 8 using an OEM installation ISO file.  A retail upgrade ISO file will not work with the product key in the BIOS.

Here is a link to download a 64 bit OEM W8 ISO file, which should work with the product key in the BIOS.

It has a limited number of downloads per day, and as I type this, it is not currently available for download, so you will have to check back later.  I would check several times a day and you may have to do this over the course of a day or two.

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B0W9PBigPy94aVJWSndyTFNFMzg/edit?pli=1

Then use this tool to make the ISO bootable onto a DVD or usb flash drive (4 GB).

Re: over heating

Hi Krivinda

Could you please expand on your overheating issue.

How long have you had your laptop for?

When it is over headting what is it sitting on? a table cloth or just a table etc

How long ago did the issue start? Had you done anything different before then that may have started the issue?

Dose this only happen when plugged into the power or dose it also happen when running on battery?

One of the common issues for over heating is a blocked heat sink, unfortuantly on your laptop there is no real easy way to get to it.

At this stage I would recommend buying a can of compressed air these can usually be picked up at your local IT store, or if you have an air compressor that will work as well. On the left hand side of your laptop there will be a vent simply spray some compressed air through there and that should remove anything blocking your heat sink, then test your PC to see if you are still experiancing an issue.

Though that is only a guess untill you are able to answer the questions above, as this could also be a softare issue.

Re: Where to find windows8 product key

Re: reset hp pavilion DV6 to factory default

When requesting assistance, please provide the complete model name and product number (p/n) of the HP computer in question. HP/Compaq makes thousands of models of computers. Without this information it may be difficult or impossible to assist you in resolving your issue.

The above requested information can be found on the bottom of your computer, inside the battery compartment or on the startup BIOS screen. Please DO NOT include your serial number. Please enter the model/product information into HP's Online Consumer Support page and post it here for our review.

You can try tapping "F" key used for "Recovery" immediate after turning the computer on. This may invoke the "HP Recovery" partition which may return the computer to a factory like state. Alternatively, you can try using the Windows Disk Management Console to mark or set the HP Recovery partition as active and reboot your computer. Please see HP - Partitioning and Naming Hard Drives (Windows 7) for information about using the Windows Disk Management Console. Upon rebooting, the computer should start the HP Recovery process. After recovering the computer to a factory like state, you should be able to create your personal HP Recovery Discs if you haven't aleady done so.

Disk_Manage_Active.png

Both of the above methods require that the computer still has the "D:\" HP Recovery partition intact and not corrupted.

If recovery from within Windows, marking the recovery partition "active" and "F" key do not work, please contact HP Customer Support in your region / country, via the HP Worldwide Support Portal, to see if HP Recovery Media is available for your computer. If in the USA, you may also check with www.computersurgeons.com

If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
