Re: ssd upgrade

You're very welcome.

It is very hard to see that it is not an integral part of the hard drive.

Then you are lead to believe you got the wrong hard drive.

That happened to me once many years ago on a Dell Latitude notebook when I had to replace a dead HDD.

I was dismayed that the interface looked nothing like what I had removed.

To my embarrassment, my 15 year old son took a quick look at the drive and yanked the connector from it.

Live and learn.  :smileyhappy:

Re: Laptop battery drains after shut down

Hello again rocket_sc,

I hope you had a great weekend!

To test, calibrate, and re-synchronize your battery you will need to first follow the steps in this document on Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 8). Once this is completed, and the battery continues to drain, then you can move to re-install the ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery.

I understand that this process can be a little overwhelming, but not to worry! I would gladly expand on the steps provided above!

To answer your first question: you are not uninstalling the software as you would from Programs and Features (like uninstalling software downloaded from a CD). Instead, you are removing small driver components removable from the Device Manager.

To get the Device Manager, please follow the steps below:

Step 1. Go to Device Manager:

a. Press the  and type "Device Manager"

b. Click the Device Manager tab on the top right-hand side.

c. The Device Manager should be open.

Step 2. Select Batteries:

a. Click the right-facing triangle to the left hand side of "batteries"

Step 3. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there

a. If you see any duplicates of the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery", please select them both.

Step 4. Click Uninstall

a. You might also see an option that says "disable." Please disregard this option, and click on Uninstall.

Step 5. At the prompt put a check in the box to remove the current driver

Step 6. Restart the computer

Step 7: Remove the battery for one minute and then put it back in

When the computer comes back up it should automatically find and install the driver.

Step 8. Go to Device Manager

a. Press the  and type "Device Manager"

b. Click the Device Manager tab on the top right-hand side.

c. The Device Manager should be open.

Step 9. Select Batteries

a. Click the right-facing triangle to the left hand side of "batteries"

Step 10. Right click the "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery" that is listed there (there should only be one).

Step 11. Click "Update Driver Software"

Do the same thing with Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller.

a. If you do not see this parcel of software in the Device Manager, please skip this step. If you do, the same steps would include:

* Right-clicking this device driver in the Device Manager

* Click on "uninstall"

* Put a check in the box next to "remove the current driver" and pressing "ok"

* Restarting the computer

* Remove the battery for one minute, then re-insert it

* Return to the Device Manager

* Right-clicking the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller

* Click "update driver software"

Please re-post with the results of your troubleshooting, and I look forward to your reply!

Re: laptop processor cooling fan

Hello,

My laptop processor cooling fan is starting to go out.  I believe it is the bearings because it makes a loud sound when it turns on.  I'm going to need a replacement fan.  Here are the specs of my laptop.

HP Pavilion m6 notebook PC - windows 7

Intel (R) Core (TM) i5-3210M CPU @ 2.50 GHz    2.50 GHz

8.00 GB RAM

I purchased my HP laptop less than two years ago for dental school.  What type of fan do I need for replacement?  Can HP send a replacement?  What do I do? I don't have a lot of time.

Thank you.

Re: HP pavilion m6 1041er

Hi:

If you can get the drive to be recognized in the BIOS,

Try this...

Download, unzip and copy the drivers I have attached below (under Attachments) without any folders to a USB flash drive.

Try the first set first, and if that doesn't work, try the second set.

The first set is for HDD controllers set to AHCI and the second set is for HDD controllers set to RAID.

With the flash drive and W8 installation media plugged into the machine, boot from the W8 installation media.

After you select the install now option, select the Drive Options - Advanced menu, then select the Load Driver option.

You should now see the storage driver files listed.

If you check the box, it will only include the compatible driver.

Follow the prompts and hopefully, W8 will install.

Re: Extend Warranty pop up message.

Hi,

So I got a pop up asking to extend my warranty that I have never scene before.

http://i.imgur.com/unMZ345.png

I find this strange because the message I got said my warranty expired 8/9/2012 and it is currently 9/22/2013. Normally if you extend a warranty a year it would be from the end date so it would be 8/9/2013 which it has already passed and it would make no sense to renew it now even at 50% off.

So my questions is would it extend it from this date or is this just a really bad bug that they need to correct to display the offer at the correct time.

Re: About battery Problem

Please give us the model number of the laptop. Probably you want to use the HP Battery Check tool

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00821536&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&docname=c03325217

The links above are for Windows 7 and 8, respectively. Likely the calibration of the battery is off and running the tool will align the meter with the real remaining battery life so you do not shut off at 45%. If you do not have Battery Tool, with your model number we can link you to the proper download for it.

Re: ethernet driver

Hi:

Unfortunately, the HP business support site has been down for almost 24 hours now.

I looked up the specs on your notebook and they indicate it has a Marvell Ethernet 10/100 Controller.

This would be the latest driver that I know of which I got from the consumer website.

32 bit

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-55838-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...

64 bit

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-56567-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...

Normally Vista drivers will work with W7.

You may have to manually install the driver however.

Or you can check your HP 610's support and driver page when it is available again, to see if there are Windows 7 drivers for that ethernet adapter.

Re: Envy 6 motherboard swap

That is something no one can tell you without inspecting visually what you have done.

Did you make certain that the memory modules you used are compatible with the new system board?

Have you tried making a usb bootable Ubuntu Linux and booting to it.

Do you see  any video in the Pre-boot phase from the BIOS?

That would require disasssembly of the notebook.

I suggest that you take it to a PC repair shop to have them inspect it.

Re: HP touchsmart 15-n090sa, SSD help

hi, thanks for the reply, I spoke to somone on the techincal support live chat and he said I couldnt replace the hard drive with an ssd, so was he wrong then?

2:09 PM MANAS:
I am afraid you cannot replace the hard drive rather you can upgrade ythe hard drive . Please find below the configurable option for your system.

Supports the following hard drives:
? 1 TB, 5400 rpm, 9.5 mm
? 750 GB, 5400 rpm, 9.5 mm
? 500 GB, 5400 rpm, 9.5 mm and 7.0 mm
2:10 PM xxx:
I dont understand, why cant I replace the hard drive?
2:13 PM MANAS:
Because you cannot upgrade to SSD because SSD is used for a cache purpose and if you want to upgrade to SSD then you need to purchase the separate the OS from Microsoft as because you are using the OEM version of OS which will only work with the hard drive which was shipped with the system.
2:14 PM xxx:
can I not clone the exsiting hard drive to a new ssd drive?
2:15 PM MANAS:
However SSD is not a configurable option for your system.
2:15 PM xxx:
ok so the ssd wont physically work even with a new copy of windows
2:16 PM MANAS:
Yes , you got it now.

Upgrading Cpu?

Here is the HP support page for your HP Pavilion g7-1310us Notebook Computer and here is the HP Pavilion g7 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide for your computer. Based on the service guide, the following CPUs will work in your system;

Intel® CoreTM i7-2640M 2.80 GHz (SC turboup to 3.50 GHz), Pin Grid Array (PGA)processor (4.0 MB L3 cache, dual core,35 W)

Intel Core i5-2540M 2.60 GHz (SC turbo up to 3.30 GHz), PGA processor (3.0 MBL3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Intel Core i5-2520M 2.50 GHz (SC turbo up to 3.20 GHz), PGA processor (3.0 MBL3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Intel Core i5-2450M 2.50 GHz (SC turbo up to 3.10 GHz), PGA processor (3.0 MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Intel Core i5-2430M 2.40 GHz (SC turbo up to 3.00 GHz), PGA processor (3.0 MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

Intel Core i3-2370M TJ85 2.40 GHz, PGA processor (3.0 MB L3 cache, dual core, 35 W)

This list isn't all inclusive but representative of CPUs installed by HP. In theory, the higher the model number... the better the performance. You shouldn't need a better cooling solution, as all the CPUs are rated at 35 watts TDP.

HP can't assure us and will not guaranty that any CPU not originally installed in your computer will work as expected and you assume all risk in changing the CPU.

8GB RAM DDR3 1600MHZ

DEDICATED GRAPHICS AMD Radeon 7730M 2GB DDR3 (Dual Graphics, not Crossfire)

HDD Seagate 750GB 7200rpm

15.6" Screen 1920x1080

Before I start, I have to say, that in HP i couldn't find ANYTHING that says what SSD i can Install... No documentation, and If i "found" that, it wouldn't make sense, because those lists are more "selling, marketing" lists of "friends" who sell... or Brands that payed to be there...

So, reading this Specs, anyone shoud think that should be no problem in buying a SSD ... It's a AMD A68m Chipset, has SATA3, USB3.0 so the technology is New...

So I bougnt the Crucial MX100 512GB...

The BIOS doesn't recognized it! I tried lots of options...

Updated the Bios to last version, back to defaults... Disconnect, connect again.

The drive WORKS I tested it on a Desktop pc, with Trinity APU as well... So it's not Chipset Limitation. I formated it, tried clonning (maybe sometimes HP searchs for their "partition labels" to accept a HDD...) No luck...

I'm out of options... Where i bought it, as the SSD works fine, so won't be able to change it!

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/product?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&man_lang=es&os=4063&product=5292556&so...

Here is the page with "full" information .... The SSD section only talks about maintain recommendations, and how to change the drive....

SOLUTION?

I want to use THIS Drive, since a lot of research i did, this one is the one I WANT. I will HATE HP if the solution is "Try other brand, model" like "intel or samsung"... If that is the solution, I will try to sell this laptop and buy other BRAND, and Bye HP forever!

Re: Drivers for Pavilion dv7-6c43cl

I have a Canon P-150 that had the drivers freeze up, and I couldn't start the scanner. I bought a newer version of the Canon P-215 (both image formula models). I had been using the P-150 for almost 3 years without any issues, and then it just stopped scanning. I bought the new P-215 last week, and couldn't get that to work either. I called Canon, and we couldn't get it to work, so they exchanged it for another brand new one (P-215). Got it the next day, plugged it in, and same deal, it wouldn't scan. The power light on the scanner is on (both on the P-150 & the P-215, but it doesn't do anything else. I called Canon again, and they said that there might be an issue with the HP Drivers on my laptop. They said there might be a hardware or software conflict, especially since the same thing happed on the old P-150, and now on 2 brand new P-215's. They told me to go to HP.Com & download any driver updates for the Chipset. When I go to the HP.Com site, it asks me to put in my laptop model, then it scans for the model, it comes up, then there's a window where it tells you to "Scan My Product" to look for driver updates, and when I do that, absolutely nothing happens. I've attempted to "Scan My Product" numerous times over the past several days, and nothing happens. There's no message saying there are driver updates for your computer, nor is there a message that says there aren't any updates, and I just seem to be going around in circles, and nothing seems to be solved.

Thanks!

I still have some other 2 devices missing, don't really know what they are worth for.

It's the ''Ethernet Controller''

PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_3388103C&REV_06
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_3388103C
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&CC_020000
PCI\VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&CC_0200

And the ''SM Bus Controller"

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C22&SUBSYS_3388103C&REV_05
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C22&SUBSYS_3388103C
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C22&CC_0C0500
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1C22&CC_0C05

Could you give me these drivers if is worthable?

And also, I saw in another blog that I should update all the drivers I just Installed online. But I was not able. Is that really necessary?

Finally,

Which program(s) would you recommend for me to instal to keep my laptop clean and without errors (such as antivirus, pc protector, any stuff like that)

Thanks in advance.

Re: hp 17-e189nr and dual band wireless n - bluetooth 4.0 mini pcie card compatability

Hi:

While I can't guarantee what will happen with your specific notebook, it appears forum members are installing whatever wireless cards they want in their HP notebooks made in the last year or so.

See related threads...

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Hardware-Upgrades-Replacements/11-n030ca-upgrade/m-p/4468378#M42653

http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Wireless-Internet-Home-Networking/Why-no-Dual-Band-NIC-card/m-p/4019924...

While one member did successfully install an Intel wireless card in a notebook with an AMD processor, another was able to install it but he couldn't get it to work.

If it were me, I might opt for the Broadcom dual band card with bluetooth, that I listed in the first link.

But that is up to you...

Re: Processor Upgrade

Hi,

Processor alone will help a bit but you also need other component. Pleae use the 3rd manual of the following link to check:

   http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=5395173&

(Note: not all of them are applicable).

Re: ram capacity of HP ENVY m6-1106tx Notebook

hi Paul

thank you for answering.

I have read through the chapter that you  provided, but a bit confuse.

it said

"Supports 8192-MB of system RAM in the
following configurations:

then it said
? 16384-MB (8192-MB×2; not supported
on computer models equipped with a 32-
bit operating system or with Windows
Home Basic)

does it mean that the 8GB for one slot, which two slots support 16gb in total please?

sorry about lack of the pc knowledges.

thank you.

Re: hp pro 3400 mt video card upgrade problems and advice

I have done some reasearch and realize that the hp pro 3400 mt has some  compatibility issues with the gtx 7xx series and  amd r9/r7 series cards I want to ask a few questions in hope that i can find a solution for upgrading for both myself and other hp pro 3400 mt users.

1. does anybody know any CONFIMED mid to high range video cards that work in this model?

2. does anybody know if the hp mobo is a rebranded mobo by foxxconn or some other company  that could have an identical board to update the bios. (hp stops at rev 7.xx)

3. does anyone know the particular reason that these cards have compatibility issues? (why  or why not supported)

that way perhaps someone could look for cards that have a particular "feature", "instructions set", "version", or "component" that is compatible.

4. Are there any work arounds that i may have not come across?

If you have answers to any of these questions of found similar solutions with another model, plz state that as well. Thankyou.

Re: HP ENVY m6 Notebook PC NEED HELP With Updating

Hello @Youniverse ,

Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand your notebook keep trying to update but fails and undoes the changes. I should be able to help you with this.

I would suggest going through the following guide to troubleshoot issue updating: Troubleshoot problems with installing updates. Take note of the drop down in the top right corner to the applicable operating system.

If that doesn't resolve the issue I would suggest the following (There might be some already covered in the guide above):

Perform the updates from safe mode.Disable any anti-virus, firewall, or active security software.Perform a system restore to before the first attempt to update, and try again without security software running.Block the updates from occuring if you know which ones are causing the issue.

Booting into safe mode:

Press Windows Key + CClick Settings.Click Change PC settings.Under PC settings, click General.Under Advanced startup, click Restart now.On the Choose an option screen, click Troubleshoot.Click Startup Settings.Click Restart. On the Startup Settings screen, choose Safe mode with networking.

Disable security software:

This one's really impossible to guide you through. Typically you will have an icon in your system tray (where your time is) that you can right click on to disable or turn off your security software.

Performing a system restore:

Press Windows Key + X.Click Control Panel.Type Recovery in the search field of Control Panel (top right).Click Recovery.Click Open System Restore.Follow the steps in the System Restore to go back to a point before the issue started.

Block an update from installing:

Press Windows Key + X.Click Control Panel.Click System and Security.Click Windows Update.Click Check for updates to rescan for available updates.Click on # important updates are available. Where # is the number of available updates.Right click on the update and choose Hide update. If the update is not shown, click the Optional tab on the left.

Let me know if any of this works for you. :smileyhappy:

Re: Compaq CQ58-205SL hdd replacement

You will need to replace the original hard disk with  a  SATA notebook hard disk that is the same capacity or larger. Keep the capacity of the new hard disk less than 1.5 TB. Your notebook "Supports 6.35-cm (2.5-in) hard drives in 9.5-mm (.37-in) and 7.0-mm (.28-in) thicknesses"

You will need your  recovery disk set or usb recovery media to restore the operating system and required drivers to the notebook.

Is your notebook still in warranty? Check your warranty status Here.

Re: HP Laptop New Purchase

Hi,

New laptop with USB port(s) will work with USB "docking" station (I'd never call USB x.0 as docking station). For your budget, you can get a good laptop (such as high end Envy class machines) and an USB 3.0 docking station. You may also need a spare power supply (ie charger) for you laptop too. I may say:

Laptop up to $1,250

USB 3.0 dock $170

Spare charger: around $70

Regards.

Re: 104-Unsupported wireless network device detected

Welcome N68.

Banhien is correct.

The reason it must be a supported WiFi is because of FCC regulations.

If you look on the bottom of your laptop or under the battery you will see the FCC regulations.

This may help.

Re: Broken computer eject mechanism on HP Advanced Docking Station

Hi, I don't really know where to place this post so I try my luck here. I've got for some time HP Advanced Docking Station. Warranty is over and the eject mechanism is busted. I really don't know the right terminology so excuse my english in this.

One of the beaks insuring that the laptop is steady in it's place is broken and it does not come to it's default position" after ejecting laptop.

Bad position

Here fot the comparison is the default position of the "beak" or whatever is it's name:

Default position

I found out that there is spring inside which is returning the "beak" to it's correct position. Sadly the plastic on which the spring was leaning on is broken:

broken mechanism - TOP - broken one - left

eject mechanism - BOTTOM - broken one - right

I clearly see what is wrong. And now my questions: Where do I get this as spare part? What's the correct name of this component? Does it have some product number or some ID to find it online?

Thank you all for your answers,

Miroslav

Re: Question on upgrading graphic cards

Hi I have an HP ENVY TouchSmart 15t-j100 Quad Edition Notebook PC that was custom-built and mailed to me.

4th gen i7 4700mq

12gb ram

1tb hard drive

intel hd 4600 graphics*****

I was just wondering if it was possible to upgrade my current card to a better one? I've read in most places that it is cannot but I just wanted to confirm.

For example, if I wanted to upgrade to one offered in the list of graphics cards available for this laptop..

NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 740M Graphics with 2048MB of dedicated video memory

NVIDIA® GeForce® 840M Graphics with 2048MB of dedicated video memory

^Could I be eligible to change it to one of these?

Re: HP Pavilion Desktop a6042n - could not power up

Hi! I have a HP Pavilion a6042n desktop that gave me no probs since it was bought in 2007.

My PC specs can be seen here at http://bit.ly/1m0ZlNa

Recent;y, I could not power it up. Blue light shows on CPU power on button and on green light shows on keyboard, but  I hear the fan run a while and stopped, and PC cannot power up. Prior to this power up, the previous time I tried I heard the fan going very fast and very loud, so I shut it down. I guess the CPU fan has died? Or is there any other problem?

Do I need to replace the CPU fan?

If yes, is this CPU fan item compatible and known to work....http://ebay.to/1s0acta

And can I upgrade RAM at the same time? will this RAM UPGARDE item work ....http://ebay.to/1s09VX0

I am no techie and will really appreciate any help I can get here.

Thank you.

Replacement Battery for HP DV6 7028TX ( New Pull Batteries ) - and a comment on Msata

Hi all , hows it going?

I need a replacement battery for my notebook ( DV6-7028TX ) and online there are multiple places that offer , " New Pull Batteries" , which are basically pulled off a new laptop, as the name suggests and is significantly cheaper. Does anyone have any experience with these? And are they any good?

On the Topic of Hardware upgrades and replacements, for those of you that may have a hp dv6-7028tx, while doing some maintence on it i spotted a msata slot,( which comes blank as stock on this model) , to which i added a kingston 60gb Msata ssd into , and got Intels Rapid Storage Technology running. which then uses the ssd as a cache for the HDD. And from personal experience its lightning quick with booting up and all my regular programs. So if you have an msata slot and  can run Intels RST, I definitly reccomend getting it!well worth the $75 for the ssd. It feels like a new laptop.

I apologise got a bit off topic, below is the link for the batteries

let me know what you knowledgeable folks make of this, Thank you! :smileyhappy:
