HP Pavillion Sleekbook TS 14 recovery/crash

Trying to help my friend whose daughter crashed her PC.

Started with a virus that wouldn't allow it to connect or barely function. Tried anti-virus and malware programs but the computer was running so slow it couldn't even make it through a scan without crashing and freezing.

Finally decided to use HP recovery manager... everything was going fine during a full factory reset when the computer did an auto reboot but never came back on.

Tried turning it on to find the blue screen message stating a required device isn't connected or can't be accessed, etc.

Error code 0XC0000185.

Was able to get to the BIOS, etc but not windows. Ran the diagnostics memory and HD tests and all tests passed.

The "Born on Date" in system info is 12/25/2013 and they just bought it not long ago, but I don't think they registered it as when I did the waranty search nothing came up.

They seem pretty oblivious and do not remember if they have a recover USB drive, and it doesn't have a CD drive.

I have all the information from the system info screen... not sure where to go from here. Not sure why it would crash after what seemed like a perfectly ran recovery, and worried about having them order a recover USB in case it continues to happen. Advice? Thoughts?

Tried running recovery again by pressing F11 on boot, but it brings it to the same screen, seems all I can access is the BIOS menu and system info area.
